Når værktøjet placeres over koblingskoen og drejes i retning af pilene, bestemmer den mindste interne måleprofil på værktøjet, 23,40 mm, om koblingsskoen er for slidt - med nye koblingssko vil værktøjet kun dreje sig lidt, med slidte koblingssko vil det dreje sig mere. Hvis skoen er mindre end værktøjet, skal du erstatte koblingskoen for at opnå optimal ydeevne. Værktøjet virker med en komplet koblingssamling, enten installeret eller ikke installeret på en nitromotor. Dette eliminerer behovet for dyre måleinstrumenter såsom skydelærer eller mikrometre.
